The Weekly October 7th

1 Corinthians | A Divided Church Uniting Around The Gospel & It’s Mission

This past week we looked at Acts 18, the like of Paul, the city of Corinth and how the Corinthian Church was started. This upcoming Sunday (October 12th) we will be looking at Paul’s opening remarks to the Corinthian church, his greetings and initial exhortations.

This is an incredibly timely book for us. The whole reason Paul wrote to the Corinthians is because they were divided over many different things as a result of their pride. Paul’s admonishment to them is to reflect Christ whom they claim to belong to, rally and unite around Jesus and to get serious about sharing Jesus with others.

Community Group Wednesday

This Wednesday marks the beginning of our Community Group bible study on 1st Corinthians. Community group for us provides the opportunity for fellowship, prayer, further bible study and accountability. Every week we share a meal together prior to our discussion time.

This week our meal is Spuds & Chili.

Please bring your favorite spud topping along with Chili. We will provide the potatoes and bible discussion questions.

We will have a baby sister available for all of our children as well. So weather you have an infant or children under 10 yrs old, someone will be there looking out for them.

COAH Coat Drive

Fall in Georgia is really not that cold. Winter however can be a different story. In just a couple weeks we will begin to see some really cold temperatures and unfortunately a great many people (including children) in our town do not have winter jackets of any sorts. For that reason we will be doing a coat drive all the way up until the last Wednesday night of the month.

If you or your business would be interested in helping us raise awareness and stage a drop off location, please let us know. We would be more than happy to come by and do a pick up later this month.

Freeman Family Farms

On October 18th we will be heading to Freeman family farms for a day of family fun. You will want to be sure to bring your camera with you as there will be multiple opportunities to take and snap some great photos. The cost is very affordable and you can either bring your own lunch or buy your lunch on site.

Mill Creek Trick or Treat

We have been invited out by the city of Statesboro to be a part of the Mill Creek Trick or Treat event on October 31. We will have a table where we will be passing out candy to children along with gospel information for those who are interested. We will also have our corn hole boards out for people to enjoy.

Once the sun goes down we will be showing a family friendly movie, “Monsters University”. While the movie is playing we will be giving out all the coats collected from our coat drive. Because there are bound to be only a limited number of coats and jackets we will be giving them away on a first come first serve basis once the movie begins.

Prayer Partners

We want to thank all those who call City on a Hill their home for their continued support in their giving, service and prayers. We also would like to thank those of you who pray for us even though you do not attend City on a Hill. If you would like more information for how you can either pray for, be a part of, or serve Jesus through City on a Hill, please email us at
