For the past year we have been busy laying a solid foundation for a church plant. In doing we so have taught on what we believe to be some of the most important ideas and teachings in scripture. We have covered our basic doctrine, looked at the person and work of Jesus, the role of the church and Jesus people within the city, etc. It has been a year of heavy lifting, lots of planning, lots of blood, sweat and tears. There has been a lot of work done with our hands firmly gripped to the plow, trudging away, seeking to be obedient to what it is that Jesus has called us to do. It has been a year wrought with prayer.
And now we stand at a precipice.
Having done a great deal we understand that what happens next really has little to do with us and a great deal more to do with the hand of the Lord. As City on a Hill prepares to launch we know that it is not our hands that grows the church, it is not our hands that reaches into peoples hearts, it is not our hands that delivers, it is not our hands that sustains, it is not our hands brings men and women in to hear the gospel….it is the hand of the Lord.
So we pray.
For the next 34 days we are praying that Jesus would go before us as we endeavor to launch City on a Hill on September 7th at Bulloch Academy in Statesboro Georgia. In doing so we are praying for some very specific things. That Jesus would prepare the hearts and minds of those that will be with us in the weeks and years to come. That the Holy Spirit would prepare our hearts and minds to serve the people that do come. That we would be given wisdom and insight as we seek to love the city as Jesus has called us to. That men, women, children and families would hear, see and experience the goodness of the gospel and be born again. That Jesus people would be empowered to do the work they have been called to do. That the Lord would continue to provide the means for the mission.
We are also praying for the well being and protection of those who are leading and serving within the church. We have just come to expect greater adversity at times of greater opportunity.
Accompanying our time of prayer we are asking our people to consider fasting as well. We will also be having gathered times of prayer on Wednesday morning from 6:00 – 7:00 AM in the hospital cafeteria if you would like to join us.
WE INVITE YOU TO PRAY WITH US. WE INVITE YOU TO PRAY FOR US.
We understand that you might not be in a position to join us at City on a Hill on September 7th, but you can partner with us in prayer. Many of you have spent some time either praying for the work that we have committed ourselves to and some have even gone as far as to give their treasure as well. We can not thank you enough. At this time we would greatly appreciate your prayer as we inch toward the official “starting line”.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Thank you, and we look forward to reporting back to you in the near future of all the good things the Lord has done and is doing.
